Brayden Legrand
Laing
June 26, 2001 – January 12, 2023
The world lost a bright light on January 12, 2023, when Brayden Laing, of Chino Hills, passed away as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was 21 years old.
Brayden LeGrand Laing was born on June 26, 2001, in Provo, UT to devoted parents LeGrand and Becca. Affectionately known as Bray-man, Brayden lived the first 15 years of his life in Springville, UT. He was thrilled to be the big brother to 5 siblings: Addy, Sophie, Kolby, Brielle, and Mia. As the oldest, Brayden brought his siblings and cousins along as he let his imagination roam. They defended kingdoms and participated in countless sword fights in their play. Whatever they were doing together, Brayden made it more fun.
The family later moved to Chino, CA, where Brayden attended Ruben S. Ayala High School. He loved to play football, first for the Springville Red Devils, and later for the Ayala Bulldogs, where he was fondly known as "Utah". He created fond memories driving to early morning seminary before school each morning with his sister Addy and other dear friends who all looked up to him.
His other passions included working out and playing catch with his dad and his beloved little brother Kolby almost every day, surfing, watching Star Wars, and hanging out with his family, with whom he was extraordinarily close. Whether in Springville or Chino, Brayden shared his light and enthusiasm with numerous friends.
After high school and seminary graduation, Brayden enjoyed a lengthy road trip with his family and grandparents across the country visiting U.S. and sacred Church History sights. They had a remarkable experience together.
Soon after this, Brayden devoted 2 years of his life serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He served for 8 months in the Guatemala, Guatemala City Central mission before returning home due to the worldwide pandemic. After a few months, Brayden was reassigned to the Utah Orem mission, where he continued to serve diligently. In both assignments, he impacted hundreds of lives with his example, his love, and his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Brayden's infectious enthusiasm and his natural leadership blessed all who served with him. He concluded his service in July 2021 and returned home to his family, now living in Nibley, UT.
Brayden had the very great privilege of meeting Camille Clavel while still in high school. In December 2021, the high school sweethearts married in the Newport Beach temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In their first year of marriage, they embraced life fully, having adventures together in Logan, UT, Plainsboro Township, NJ, and Chino Hills, CA. Brayden and Cami loved going to the temple together, having movie nights, spending time with family, and quietly serving those around them. Like the Savior, Brayden went about doing good. He had no expectation or desire for recognition.
At the time of his death, Brayden was taking classes online through Utah Valley University. His greatest aspirations were to be a father and to teach the gospel as a seminary and institute teacher, just like his dad.
Brayden is survived by his treasured wife Cami, of Chino Hills, CA, adoring parents LeGrand and Becca, siblings Addy, Sophie, Kolby, Brielle, and Mia, of Nibley, UT, grandparents Garth and Kathy Rasmussen and Ron and Robyn Laing, great-grandma Lois Larsen, a large and loving extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many dear friends.
Though his death was untimely, we know without a doubt that Brayden was ready to meet the Lord. We have faith in God's plan and know that because of the Savior Jesus Christ we will have the opportunity to be reunited with Brayden again.
At the completion of his missionary service, Brayden wrote the following words, "It has been more than a pleasure to serve the Lord and I am glad to say that I will continue to serve Him throughout my life... I love Him and I know that He loves me. I don't know exactly how to do life but I know that if I trust in the Lord and follow Him in all things, then I'll be okay."
Really, we didn't lose Brayden's light after all. It will continue to shine for his friends, his loved ones, and for all who hear about him. He's just sharing his light in heaven too.
God be with you till we meet again, Bray-man.
