Demetra "Litsa"
Stavropoulos
November 10, 1938 – November 8, 2019
Demetra Bobolakis Stavropoulos, passed away on November 8, 2019 in Arcadia, California. She was born on November 10, 1938 in Piraeus, Greece to Vasilis and Konstantina Bobolakis. She is survived by her older sister Chrysanthy and her younger brother George. After experiencing World War II as a young girl, she enjoyed her idyllic teen years in Piraeus, swimming in the ocean, meeting with friends, socializing and dancing. Demetra, or "Litsa," as she was called was vivacious, social, and fun-loving. Her zest for life was limitless. At the age of 20 she moved to the United States on a student visa to pursue college. She spent time in Chicago, Portland, and Seattle, but after visiting Los Angeles, she decided to stay and attend Azusa Pacific University and live with her Thea Nota and cousin Demie. At the age of 22 she was introduced to Theodore Stavropoulos at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. It was a match made in heaven: they fell in love, he proposed and they were married in 1961. They had a beautiful loving marriage until Ted passed away in 2000. Together they raised two loving sons, Peter and William. She was dedicated to her family, her church, Saint Anthony's of Pasadena, and her Philoptochos chapter, serving as president twice. She believed in self-improvement and growth in all areas of her life. She was also an avid tennis player and an incredible artist. One of her favorite sayings was that beautiful sunsets were "God's canvas." She was intensely positive and saw love and beauty in all things.
She is survived by her son Peter, and his wife Theodora and their two daughters Arianna and Katia; and her son William, his wife Jane, and their two sons Teddy and Niko. Her family meant everything to her and she was always so proud of her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena, 778 S. Rosemead, Pasadena, CA 91107. Burial to follow at San Gabriel Cemetery, 601 W. Roses Road, San Gabriel, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be kindly accepted for Walking Strong Organization at walkingstrong.org , for Litsa's great-nephew Alexander Pappas Llauro.
