Luis Arzate
Gomez
July 25, 1933 – April 10, 2019
We all live on borrowed time. People come and go so unexpectedly, we sometimes forget that nothing really lasts as long as we hoped it would.
Luis Arzate Gomez, transitioned to be with The Creator, his parents and siblings on April 10, 2019. He was 85 years old, born July 25, 1933 in Sweetwater, Texas. His home town upon death was Stanton, California. He came from a large, well-known family which lived on "Logan Street" in Santa Ana, California. He was the twelfth of twelfth children of the Arzate-Gomez Family. You could almost call them the "Rascals by the Dozen". Surviving Louie are his six children, Angelina, Elizabeth, Martha, Carrie, Luanna and Luiz Jr. along with their children and spouses, former wife Angelina D. Gomez of 26 years and his partner, Chong Burris.
As a first generation Mexican/American he believed in the American Dream. He went to a segregated elementary school, eventually graduating from Santa Ana High School where he met his soon to be wife, Angelina. Louie and Angie were the only members of their families to graduate from High School. Louie and Angie married in 1953, then off to the Korean War to serve our country, as his brothers had done before him. After the war, he went to Plumbing and Pipefitters School and began his career in plumbing. As the family grew to eight, Luis took a promotion with the firm he worked for and moved to the Seattle, Washington area. As the Washington economy dropped he moved his family back to California where he lived until death.
Louie had an incredible "intellectual curiosity" which educated him in many avenues. He loved books, cars, antiques. This value of education was instilled upon his children and all had benefit of a college education. One even excelled to a Doctorate of Physics.
Many adventures were had by Louie, Angie and the Kids. Camping, swimming, road trips, airplane trips, flea markets, parties, dancing, creating something "new" out of something "old". An early "repurposer and recycler". If there is only one word to describe Louie, it was "social". People were always welcomed into his house for a meal and fellowship. The huge station wagon was always packed with the kids' friends for a road trip. He was loving and had a tremendous sense of humor.
Angelina Gomez and her children thank all for their love, support and prayers in their time of grief and sorrow.
