Marika Psihountas was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 28, 1952, to Marco and Thespe (Kavulakis) Psihountas, their beloved only child. She graduated from Brush High School and attended John Carroll University, where she nurtured her love for languages and culture.

Marika was extremely musically talented—She played the piano beautifully and could pick up and play nearly any instrument. Music was at the heart of her life, and she especially loved the Beatles. She shared her passion for language as a high school Spanish teacher in Cleveland, and after moving to Southern California, she embraced her Greek and Cretan heritage fully, becoming a beloved Greek dance instructor for parishes across Orange County.

Marika was a cherished member of our community, known for her warmth, generosity, and deep love of Greek culture. A dedicated member of the Cretan Society, she touched countless lives with her joy, music, and dancing.

Marika fell asleep in the Lord on May 19, 2025. We are raising funds to help cover the funeral and burial expenses for our beloved Marika, so that she may be laid to rest with the dignity, honor, and love she so generously shared with all who knew her.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos Society. Every contribution will help provide a proper Orthodox funeral and burial for Marika.
