Patty
Angelopoulos
February 17, 1964 – June 29, 2021
Patty was born on February 17, 1964 in Zevgolateio, Corinthia, Greece.
Patty was the second child (first daughter) born to Nico & Tasoula Ioannidis. Her parents immigrated to the United States in 1969 with her older brother Michael and sister Ria. A year after living in the states her little sister Andrea was born.
As a family they were devout Orthodox Christians and attended liturgy every Sunday. Patty was involved with many church youth groups where she made and maintained many of her lifelong friends. In high school she made friends with her now sister-in-law Georgia Alevizos (Angelopoulos) and their beautiful friendship led Georgia to introduce Patty to her brother Gus. It was love at first sight for the two of them. In 1983 their lifelong love affair began. Patty's parents were so strict they wouldn't allow Gus and Patty to be alone so Gus had to bring Patty's sisters along with them on dates. They dated for a year then Gus asked her to marry him. During their engagement Patty planned Her fairytale wedding to the man of her dreams. They got married on April 21, 1985 They immediately wanted to start a family...
Shortly after marriage, Patty and Gus had 3 beautiful children Demetri, Voula and Nicholas, and is also a step mother to Kristin and Courtney. She also was blessed to become a Grandmother to 4 adorable grandchildren; Dina, Tenley, Briel, and Kosta. Patty was a family woman. Her life was filled with love. She wanted her family close and she always wanted everyone to be together.
She was always an adventurous person. For example; Gus and Patty planned a Virginia vacation where she fell in love with the community, people and the area. She always wanted to experience the seasons and to be around nature. 3 months after vacationing to Virginia, Patty and Gus made the decision to move their family and begin a new adventure. In 1998 Patty and Gus packed up their life in California and headed East to Norfolk, Virginia with their 3 kids to set out on a new chapter together. It was there where Patty and Gus opened Gus's New York pizza, where the whole family worked together. Gus and Patty were very active in the community and church where they made lifelong relationships with new friends. 4 years later with the loss of her Father in law, Jim and Gus's massive heart attack they knew that they needed to be back with family. So they decided to come back to California where the majority of their relatives were.
Although her family was her priority, Patty always pursued her career goals. Throughout her life Patty worked for major corporations like: Coca Cola, Delta, and Alaska. She sold Title insurance, sold real estate, managed a real estate office and trained new upcoming realtors. Not to mention going back to school to get her Esthetician license. Patty even went back to school and was taking online classes to achieve her associates degree. Patty was the jack of all trades. There wasn't a job she couldn't do, she always worked hard and never took the easy road. She always believed in educating yourself and adding tools to elevate your working portfolio. She believes in building something special that she and her husband could build together. Even though she worked hard and had demanding jobs, she was always there for all 3 of her children's extracurricular activities, sports and plays. She never missed a single thing. She found a way to make it look easy.
Her passions in life were vacations, cooking and family. Patty would plan a family vacation every year and traveled all over the world. She loved it so much that her lifelong dream was to be a flight attendant and to get paid to travel. Even though that dream didn't come till she was in her 50's, it just shows you, she never stopped reaching for her dreams. Virgin American Airlines which turned into Alaska Airlines gave her that chance to travel and see the world. When Patty would have a layover, she would fly Gus out so they could spend her days off together in a new destination. Her favorite places were Greece and Hawaii and weekend trips up north to see her son Niko in San Francisco and to stop in Paso Robles to see the wine country. Not before she stopped to pick up KFC before the long car ride! A bucket of chicken was a signature road trip must have. Her trips were always an open invitation. Always seeing new sites with her closest people around her was her favorite part.
Patty absolutely loved to cook. Hunting down the perfect recipe was always a passion. She has boxes upon boxes of cook books and magazines to prove it. She found such great passion in throwing and hosting parties of all sorts but most importantly the holidays where we could all get together under one roof and create memories. Dinner was always ready every night with enough food to feed an army, not knowing who's stopping by. Everyone knew that the Angelopoulos' house hold was always open and anyone was welcome to come and stay whenever they needed it. Patty and Gus even took in a few kids over the years and helped guide them to get back on their feet and still keep in contact with them today. They always helped anyone in need.
Patty's Faith, Family and Friends were her life.
She was very actively involved in her Greek Orthodox Church communities and part of the Philoptochos.
Her husband Gus, the love of her life. Married for 36 years have had a beautiful marriage. The kind of love that defines the word marriage. They had endless love and support for each other, especially through sickness. When Gus was fighting for his life going through his heart transplant years, Patty never left his side and made sure he had the best care and support. She never gave up on him. Once Patty was diagnosed with cancer the roles were reversed. Over the last 2 years of her fight. Gus was there for her through every treatment, every surgery, every appointment, all the long late nights of sickness and especially through these last few weeks of her fight. The tender loving care that he has given her is remarkable. A true example of love and devotion. While her last days were tough, Gus found the strength to keep her comfortable and all she wanted was for him to hold her hand and never let go. Turns out they had a fairy tale marriage, a love that is envied. Their love for each other is eternal.
Patty fought long and hard with her disease and there are so many people to thank for the endless support. We all loved Patty; she was not only the strongest woman we all know but had such passion for life and making memories. Most of you in this room have all had a personal experience with her that you will never forget. Hold on to those memories! Even though taken too young, she was put on this earth to change lives, to build relationships, to guide us, to teach us, and to show what a true woman's strength looks like. She has been faced with so many challenges, the word NO never stopped her.
Patty was a tender soul, filled with life, love, ambition. The glue to her family, the essence of the words life partner. The mom that was there to catch her hurt ones, and make them stand tall again. The biggest cheerleader. But she believed in values, tradition and high standards. A true advocate for friendship and lifelong relationships. Sassy at times yes But that's why we love her!
Patty you will be deeply missed but you left behind such a beautiful example of how to live life. We know you are in heaven, dancing on tables and breaking plates celebrating that your life was blessed here on earth. You have inspired so many and touched so many lives. Your legacy lives on so fly and soar our beautiful Patty, we will meet again.
