Paul Edward
Sexton
June 19, 1934 – September 26, 2021
Paul Edward Sexton, 87, of Baldwin Park, California, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021, with family by his side.
Paul was born June 19, 1934 in Herrin, Illinois to William and Eva Sexton. He was the 7th of 11 children. Paul spent a lot of time outdoors involved in small-town activities and playing sports. In high school, he was on the football, basketball, and track teams, and competed at the State level in the Pole Vault event. He was also involved in Drama, and acted in several school plays. He played baseball in a teen league, and traveled out of state several times with the team. In addition, he was an accomplished waterskier, bowler and pool player.
Paul served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was assigned to the 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and was trained as a paratrooper. He was then transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia. He obtained the rank of Corporal, and was awarded a Parachutist Badge, a Good Conduct Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal.
After completing his service, Paul attended Southern Illinois University, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Accounting. During that time, he married "his girl", Jeanetta Sprague, on December 8, 1957.
Paul and Jeanetta moved from Illinois to Southern California in 1961, and raised their family in Baldwin Park, California.
Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanetta (Sprague) Sexton, and five children: Jeanetta Sue Sexton, Paula (Dalan) Brokaw, William Scott Sexton, Sherri (Doug) Luke, Edward (Dena) Sexton; eight grandchildren: Derek Riggin, Jessica (Dan) Hall, Jordan (Cara) Brokaw, Alyssa (Mark) Gauthier, Carson Brokaw, Danielle Sexton, Gabrielle Sexton and Marissa Sexton; and eight great-grandchildren: Londyn, Evelyn, Megan, Aubrey, Stella, Elias, Olivia and Harper. He is also survived by three sisters: Mary Jane (Ken) Cooper, Connie (Jerry) Chapman, Sharon Gaddis, and sister-in-law, Imogene Sexton.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eva Sexton; brothers Billy Sexton, Donald Sexton, Thomas Sexton and Gary Sexton; sisters Evelyn Nation, Betty Farris, and Mildred Hale; and grandson, David Riggin.
Paul had a great love for music. You could usually hear it playing from some distance away. For many years he was involved in leading worship at his church. If he was going to do something, he did it with his whole heart. His Christian faith shone through the praise he offered up to the Lord.
Paul was a kind and generous man, who never held a grudge and never spoke unkindly about others. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and Papa. He was a good friend to many, and will be remembered with love and laughter.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hani Hashem, Caring Partners Hospice, and the staff at Rowland Convalescent Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of our husband and father during the past week. We would also like thank Hara at Chapman Funeral Home for handling the arrangements.
At Paul's request, no funeral or memorial services are scheduled.
