Obituary

Alexander "Al" Dogris passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Stanton, California. He was born on September 10, 1930, in New York City, during the Great Depression.

Al was the son of Greek immigrants, Stelios and Christina (Fotis) Dogris. Growing up on the Lower East Side, he learned the value of hard work early - helping shopkeepers, delivering laundry, and cleaning a butcher shop by age nine.

His family helped build Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church on 27 Forsyth Street in New York. That is where Al's lifelong faith began. As an altar boy, he proudly held the staff of Archbishop Athenagoras - a memory he cherished always.

At 17, Al left school to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He became a Sergeant in the 11th Airborne Division, made over 200 jumps, and served honorably through the Korean War.

After returning home, he met the love of his life, Panayota "Peggy" (Skourtas) Dogris. They married on November 10, 1956, and built a beautiful life together in California, raising their three beloved children - Christina Dogris McGrath (John), Steven Dogris (Pam), and Nicholas Dogris (Tiffany).

Al worked in the meat industry for 65 years, earning respect as a man of honesty, discipline, and perseverance. He was a dedicated member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the board for nearly 30 years.

He loved fishing, waterskiing, trips to Las Vegas, and reading about everything under the sun - but most of all, he loved his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters were the light of his life.

He was preceded in life by his parents, brother, wife, and son-in-law. Al is survived by his loving children Christina (John), Steven (Pam), and Nicholas (Tiffany); grandchildren Thomas (Emily) Liakos, Alex Liakos, Anthony McGrath (Ashlyn), AJ Dogris, Theodore Dogris, and Neo Dogris; and great-grandchildren Mary and Poppy Liakos.

A proud Greek and faithful Orthodox Christian, Al lived with strength, generosity, and conviction. He often said,

"I don't bow to any man in this world. I only bow to our Theos."

He is now reunited with his beloved wife Peggy, and their love story continues in God's eternal light. Memory ETERNAL.
