Alexandria
Markos
September 3, 1928 – January 29, 2022
Alexandria Markos 93, of Woodland Hills, California passed away on January 29, 2022 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Alexandria was born on September 3, 1928 to Gust and Christina Kappas in Kearney, Nebraska. She was the third of four sisters who truly loved one another and were extremely close their entire lives. Alexandria attended Kearney High School and went on to study music at the University of Nebraska in Kearney. After graduation she landed her first job as a High School band teacher.
She left Nebraska with her family to move to Hollywood, California where she met Peter Markos. Alexandria and Peter Markos were married on April 24, 1955 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. They were blessed with two children, George Markos and Connie Zampas. While Alexandria dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, she also taught music for over 35 years for the Los Angeles Unified School District. As a music teacher she was an accomplished, vocalist, violinist and pianist. She enjoyed having her students put on school musicals and her enthusiasm was infectious. Her influence of music was passed on to her children and grandchildren.
After retiring from teaching, Alexandria pursued a career as a real estate broker. Alexandria was a loving and devoted Mother who was supportive, kind, hilarious, witty and we will miss her dearly. She made it her mission to be the best daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She touched everyone's life and our world would not be where it is today if we did not have her.
Alexandria Markos was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and was an original member of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She sang in the church choir for many years and also directed many Christmas programs for the Philoptohos V.I.P. Alexandria was always the first to serve as a docent and gave church tours at Saint Sophia's Greek Festivals since she knew a great deal of the history of Saint Sophia. She belonged to The Daughters of Penelope for 71 years where she helped raise funds for many charities. She served as the District Governor for District 20 of the Daughters of Penelope from 1978 to 1979. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Alexandria was predeceased by her husband Peter Markos, her sisters Amelia Skoutaris, Lulu Kappas, and Katherine Pentogenis. She is survived by her children George Markos, Connie Zampas and their spouses, Christine Markos and Jerry Zampas, her grandchildren Peter Markos, Leana Ornelas (Dustin Ornelas), Alexis King (Bobby King), and Luke Zampas.
The Trisagion will take place at 7pm on Wednesday evening, February 23, 2022. The funeral will be at 9:30am on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Both services will be held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
