Obituary

Alicia J. Preciado, age 88, San Gabriel, CA, passed away peacefully from natural causes Sept 14, 2016. Alicia Julia Hernandez was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 14, 1928 to Consuelo "Connie" Almeyda (d. 5/22/99) and Alfonso S. "Al" Leal (d. 8/30/06) of Chihuahua, Mexico and Vera Cruz, Mexico, respectively. She was married for 29 years to Arturo "Arthur" Preciado who preceded her in death 8/26/07, and spent many of those years accompanying him on the golf course, (except, of course, during college football season when she was glued to the television). Alicia had a long and rewarding career working for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. She was a devoted Mormon and member of the South Pasadena Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she spent years joyfully singing in the ward choir. She also spent many happy afternoons volunteering at the Deseret cannery on Soto St in L.A., giving years of service to those in need. She loved geneology; translating Spanish-language records to English, helping many to find their ancestors. She was preceded in death by her two younger sisters, Helen "Nenti" Schroeder, and Rosalie Leal, and survived by her daughters, Theresa Velasquez (Kristie Dickinson) of Hendersonville, TN, Tina Esquivel Williams (Bill Williams), of San Gabriel, CA, Laura Esquivel (Marcia Kuntz) of Takoma Park, MD, stepchildren Kevin Preciado of San Gabriel, CA and Cherilyn Hurst Mendoza of Pasadena, CA, as well as seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends who will all miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Sat Sept 24rd 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1919 Huntington Drive, South Pasadena, CA 91030, followed by a burial and graveside service at Live Oak Memorial Park 200 East Duarte Rd.
