Arnold Joseph
Fernandes
January 31, 1924 – August 27, 2023
Arnold Joseph Fernandes was born January 31, 1924 in Glouster, Massachusetts to Joaquim and Georgina Fernandes. Shortly after he was born his family moved to Point Loma where he attended Cabrillo Grammar school and Point Loma high school. In 1940, his family moved to Chula Vista where he graduated from Sweet Water High School in 1942. He Enrolled at San Diego State to begin his college career but chose to serve his country he loved, and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard when WWII broke out. Arnold proudly fought in both WWII and the Korean War, and had countless stories to share.
On September 17, 1969, Arnold married his loving and faithful wife Anna Felactu Fernandes. The two traveled the world together and enjoyed living in different cities and continents as Arnold's career guided them.
Professionally, Arnold wore many hats in his lifetime. He was a Marine Hardware salesman, mutual fund manager, pilot, web master, port captain for American tuna sales, fleet manager for Van de Kamp's seafood, and a manager of personnel for Bumble Bee Seafood.
Arnold also served on the San Diego community college advisory committee, he was the director and member of Cardiff by the Sea town council, a life member of Cardiff by the Sea library, chamber of commerce and town council, and proud member of American legion post 416 Encinitas.
In his free time, he enjoyed sport fishing, golfing, camping, building, painting, and model yacht racing with his friends at oceanside yacht club. A man who could build and fix anything, Arnold even built a replica of a 1929 Mercedes SSK in his garage which he drove on many special occasions including the holiday parade in Encinitas.
In 2015, Arnold was thrilled to take the trip of a lifetime when he went on his Honor Flight to Washington DC.
Arnold is survived by his loving wife Anna Felactu Fernandes.
