Obituary

Bessie Heinrich, of Palm Desert, California, passed away on October 30, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born on October 10, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, ten minutes after her fraternal twin sister Demetra. The youngest of four children born to Greek immigrants Chris and Soteria Kozaites, siblings from oldest to youngest were George, Marianthi, Demetra, and Bessie. Bessie's early years were shaped by her family's move to Southern California during World War II, where they joined a vibrant Greek community of extended relatives.

A spirited girl with a sense of humor, Bessie carried her energy throughout her life. While working as a receptionist at British Petroleum, she met Carl Heinrich - the love of her life. They married in 1962 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach and shared nearly 50 years of devoted marriage until Carl's passing in 2012. One of her fondest memories was celebrating their 45th anniversary in Paris.

Bessie embraced her role as a homemaker with pride. After Carl's retirement, they moved to Monterey and in 1999 settled in Palm Desert, where they became active members of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. Bessie was a dedicated member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, known for her cheerful service at the sweets booth and other contributions to the annual Greek Festival.

With an eye for beauty and interior design, Bessie took great pleasure in decorating their home with cherished things. She also enjoyed gardening and bird-watching in her yard, and listening to Greek music. A lifelong follower of current events, she never missed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade or the Rose Bowl Parade - traditions she delighted in.

Bessie will be remembered as a proud Greek woman whose faith in God, generous spirit, vibrant personality, and infectious laughter touched everyone around her.

She is survived by her sister Demetra Monios, nephew James Monios, and niece Melanie Monios.

Memorial Trisagion will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at The Ramon Chapel at Forest Lawn, 69855 Ramon Road, Cathedral City, CA 92234.
