Caryn Dee
Tobler Trumbo
September 4, 1963 – July 19, 2020
Caryn Dee Tobler Trumbo (56) died on July 19, 2020 after a twenty-one-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Caryn was born September 4, 1963 in Nampa, Idaho to Harmon E. and Lynda Lee Tobler. She was the second of their seven children.
Raised on a dairy farm, Caryn learned to work hard from a very young age. She attended Vallivue High School where she was on the drill team and her senior class president. Following high school, Caryn became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Feeling the desire to do more in nursing, Caryn attended BYU. She worked night shifts as an LPN and attended school during the day until completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN) degree. While attending BYU, she met and dated David Trumbo. They enjoyed their time together, but David returned to his home in Orange, California and Caryn returned to Nampa. One year later, Caryn ventured to Anaheim, California for a 13-week temporary nursing assignment. They connected with each other and started their relationship again. On April 11, 1991, Caryn and David were married in the Salt Lake City temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They started their life in Placentia, California. Caryn continued to work as a part-time nurse in Intensive Care and in the Emergency Room while her family was growing. After welcoming five biological children, Caryn and David became foster parents in 2002. Five years after fostering a number of children, two more children were adopted and sealed to their family.
Caryn served in various church capacities throughout her life. She loved to serve people and it came to her naturally. Her favorite calling was that of being a service missionary nurse for the California Anaheim Mission under the direction of Brad and Valerie Bowen and Steve and Terri Taggert. Caryn loved her friends. They came from all walks of life; all different backgrounds and all different ages. Giving service to them brought her great joy. Caryn also loved her nursing profession, especially her patients and coworkers that touched her life in so many ways. At the time of her death, she had been a nurse for 36 years.
More than anything, Caryn loved her family and strived to be a good wife and mother. She also loved her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and had a strong testimony of His plan. This testimony sustained her to the end of her life. Caryn is survived by husband David, children Lyndee, Joseph (Ann Marie), Brady, Ryan, Lexi, Andrew and Lily. She was also survived by her mother Lynda Lee Tobler, siblings Laurie (Jeff Andersen), Teri (Rick Hanks), Polly (Brent Allen), Amy (Gary Burton), Harmon (Lindsey) Tobler, Dan (Shannon) Tobler, and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Harmon E. Tobler.
A viewing will take place on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Chapman Funeral Homes, 702 East Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA 92866 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.
