Catherine
Lambrakis
November 24, 1930 – December 6, 2023
Catherine Lambrakis, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother (Yia Yia) passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023. Her life was a testament to her profound love and commitment to her family and community, and she will be dearly missed.
Catherine was born on November 24, 1930, in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Spiro Lambrakis. They had four children: Paul, Michael, Julie, and George. Spiro and Catherine's love story was a tale of fate and chance. Spiro, on a journey to Cuba with an Army buddy, decided to stop in Worcester, where he had spent his formative years. Little did he know that this impromptu visit would change his life.
In Worcester, he met Catherine, whom he remembered as a friend of his sister Bessie. Fate had other plans for Spiro, as he never reached Cuba. Instead, he returned to Long Beach with his new bride and thus began an incredible love story that unfolded over decades until Spiro passed away in 2015.
Over the years, Catherine and Spiro's sister, Bessie, became inseparable, so close that many assumed they were sisters. Not a day passed without the two friends being together or chatting on the phone. They created a bond that transcended friendship. The entire Lambrakis family is comforted knowing Bessie and Catherine are together again.
Anyone who knew Catherine can attest to her unwavering dedication to her children, which she considered her life's work. Throughout the years, she was an active and involved community member. She played a vital role in the school PTA and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, lending her time and efforts to various church organizations.
Tragedy struck the Lambrakis family in 2013 when Catherine's youngest son, George, lost his battle with cancer. Despite the heartbreak, she continued to embody strength and resilience, drawing support from her remaining children, extended family, and friends.
Catherine's legacy lives on as a loving grandmother to Christina, Michael, Stephanie, Zoe, Kyle, Jake, and Nick. Her joy expanded with the arrival of great-grandchildren Daniel, Leah, Elena, Penelope, Samantha, Audrey, and Olive. Catherine's family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in watching it grow and flourish. Catherine will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind. All fortunate enough to have known her will cherish and celebrate her impact on her family, friends, and community.
We will miss you Mom/Yia Yia/Aunt/Friend! May Your Memory Be Eternal!
