Charles Norman Gardner passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Norman was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Blanche, his brothers Lynn and Danny, and his daughter Marie (James Ashbrook).

Norman was born in Logan, Utah on May 9, 1922, the second of three boys. Norman lived in Utah, Pennsylvania, California, and Oregon while growing up.

Norman attended Pasadena Jr. College and then transferred to Cal State Berkeley. After graduating with a B.S. in Engineering, he joined the Navy V-7 program. He served 3 years in the Navy during World War II. He was on the USS Princeton, which was bombed by the Japanese and ultimately sank. He attended Stanford University in their graduate program in Aero Engineering and also worked for Douglas Aircraft. Norman served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Mission. He taught 4 years at BYU, then earned his Masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He was on the faculty at Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, CA for 20 years teaching mathematics and engineering. He served three more missions for the Church with his wife Carol in Anchorage, Alaska; Durban, South Africa; and Mexico City, Mexico.

Norman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol, and 5 children, Bonnie, David (Gayla), Francie (Del Nelson), Catherine (Steven Hurlbert), and Ruth (Charles Northrup),sister Anne (Peter Bukalski), 22 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service with be held Saturday, June 3 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 23850 Los Alisos Boulevard, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. There will be a viewing at 9:30am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. Interment will be at El Toro Memorial Park on Monday, June 5 at 12:00pm.
