Chrysoula Hasir, 84, died peacefully on March 10, 2015. She was born in Drama, Greece to the late Elias and Panagiota Kontopoulou on August 20, 1930.  Chrysoula attended high school in Drama, and was a lifetime member of Zoe. She studied nursing in Athens and became a Registered Nurse with a specialty in surgery. She married the late Nikolaos Hasir in Greece and they moved to America in 1955 where they raised their family.

Chrysoula loved her profession as a nurse, she loved helping others and nursing gave her a meaningful way to do that. In her retirement, Chrysoula worked tirelessly for the Saint George Greek Orthodox community of Downey, California.  She volunteered for the Ladies Philoptochos Society at the community and diocesan level. She was known for the most delicious loukoumades, and her beautiful voice filled Saint George Church.  Chrysoula's singing expressed the joy and love in her heart.  Her greatest purpose and joy was in giving.

Chrysoula is predeceased by her husband, Niko, her sister, Despina, and her niece, Maria. She is survived by her children: Yani and Maria Hasircoglu, Ellie Karakirov, and Eleni and Vasili Gatsios, her brother-in-law Elias Mattas, her niece Penny Marougas, and by her grandchildren: Christine, Jonathan, Sophia, Chrysoula, Gwen, and Caroline.

Services will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 10830 Downey Ave, Downey, CA 90241. Trisagion service on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 7 pm, and the funeral services on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10 am. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
