In loving memory of Clara (June) White, daughter of Joseph Erven Scott and Della Crystal Gardner
June was born on June 4, 1926 in Salt Lake City where she had two older brothers, Erven Allen Scott, LaMar Delwood Scott, and later a younger brother, Joseph Gardner Scott. After school and homework, June learned her father's business in running "Scott's gas & grocery" with the family. She also learned to garden on the original Scott homestead acres to provide fresh vegetables at the store. Bookkeeping came easy for June as she grew older to further assist the family business. All changed for June when her mother Della took ill and was hospitalized in 1939 where she shortly passed away from cancer. With the family in grief, family took solace in work, school, and church. June's father remarried and had a daughter Betty Scott that became the newest family member. As June became 15 years old, her older brothers joined the military and she with her younger brother moved in with her father's sister, Zella and husband Bruford Reynolds, along with their daughter Leona Reynolds where she continued her teen years.
June and Leona, close in age, became like sisters and started dating near the end of war II often dancing to the music of Freddy Martin at the Coconut Grove. It was on an occasion like this where by early 1945, Leona asked June to go on a blind date with her that introduced June to Vivian Niel White a Staff Sergeant in the US Army stationed nearby and it was love at first sight for them both. Viv wrote letters and poems to June and dated during leaves. On July 6, 1945, after Viv was honorably discharged from the Army, Viv proposed to June and went to Marysville, California to get married and start their new life together.
She and Viv moved to Eastern Oregon to assist Viv's parents, Niel and Lula White on their cattle ranch where in 1949 gave birth to Brad Marshall White. With Brad, they returned to Utah so Vivian could attend Utah State University while June worked during the day. June closely learned with Viv after work and the campus newspaper wrote "two educations for the price of one", even though June was not officially enrolled. With Viv's Master Degree, moving back to Oregon, Craig Erven White was born in 1953 while Viv worked as a Vice Principal in Heppner and by 1956 said goodbye to Oregon moving to Southern California for a higher salary teaching position in Long Beach. By 1960, their youngest son Niel Owen White was born as they continued each summer visits with family in Oregon and Utah. In 1961 Vivian, Brad, and Craig were baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, joining the church that June and her family had been born into.
Shortly after Brad's high school graduation in 1967, June decided to go back to school to earn her GED that was incomplete when she was younger due to her mother's passing. June completed with honors and said it was one of the best things she ever did. All the family encouraged her to do music and art as she had provided to all her children. By 1971 she took an oil painting class where she met one of her life long friends, Virginia Walton. Very little could keep them apart as they both encouraged each other to do many new things and often said "life has no limits". June painted, crocheted, played the accordion and piano, while being housewife. June's bookkeeping skills offered her employment in the 70's and in the 80's assisted Brad and Craig in their business's.
June is survived by her sons Craig and Niel White, along with grandchildren Brad's children, Christopher and Jonathan in addition to NIel's children, Sean, Ryan, and Hannah White. We all honor the memory of June's eldest child Brad Marshall White who passed on November 3, 2011.
Today's church services are at 11am for June White are followed by burial service at the Riverside Veteran's Cemetery with return for a 3pm luncheon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ward in Anaheim. All grandchildren will offer usher and pallbearer services for their grandmother June White with our blessings.
