Constantine Glezakos,
Ph.D.
March 22, 1936 – November 18, 2023
Constantine Glezakos passed away on November 18th, 2023, with his loving wife of 55 years, Agathi Glezakos, at his bedside. In addition to Agathi, he is survived by his daughters Stavroula Glezakos and Tina Glezakos, sons in law Dack Stackhouse and Chris Brigham, and grandchildren Effie Glezakos Sabean and Zane and Finley Glezakos.
Constantine was born in Kalamata, Greece in 1936 to Stavroula and Panagiotis Glezakos. He was the second youngest of five children (siblings Yianni, Maria, Maki, and Vangelia); he and his sisters and brothers remained extremely close throughout their lives. Constantine moved to Athens at the age of 19 to study economics at the university. Following completion of his military service in the Greek Army, he was employed by the Center of Planning and Economic Research in Athens.
In 1964, Constantine left Athens to study in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, where he obtained a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in economics. While studying at USC, Constantine fortuitously met another Greek student, Agathi, who was pursuing a graduate degree in social work at the university. The two were married in 1968. Constantine spent his career as a professor of economics at Cal State Long Beach, where he researched, taught, and mentored students from 1968-2010.
During their marriage, Constantine and Agathi traveled the world together and explored different countries and cultures. Constantine loved to fish, play blackjack, take walks and enjoy delicious meals with his family and wonderful friends. He was an avid sports fan, having been a USC Trojan football season ticket holder for close to 40 years, and was always eager to have conversations about the Dodgers and Lakers. He will be remembered as an amateur magician who amazed children with his disappearing penny trick. Perhaps his greatest joy and accomplishment was being an adoring and generous Papou to his three grandchildren.
Constantine was a decades-long member of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, California. He served the parish as an auditor for many years, supported the Greek School, and was a reviewer of applications for the Father Hadjis memorial scholarship. Most years Constantine worked in some capacity at the church's Greek Festival and the Orange Street festival. One of his great joys was hearing the beautiful traditional hymns during the liturgy on Sundays and holidays. Constantine was very proud of his heritage and never missed an opportunity to tell people about his Greek culture and background.
Trisagion and funeral services will be held together on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 405 Dale Street, Anaheim, CA 92801. There will be a Makaria luncheon immediately after the funeral service, followed by interment at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary, at 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, CA 92625.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to celebrate Costa's life consider making a donation to the Saint John's Ladies Philoptochos Society in his honor: www.stjohnanaheim.org/about/philoptochos
