Obituary

Constantino "Gus" Stratos passed away peacefully at home in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, February 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Gus was born on August 24, 1927. He was the son of Greek immigrants, Stratos George and Evdokia George. After his graduation from Huntington Park High School in 1945, Gus joined the Merchant Marines where he served for one year. He was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army where he served the next two years. After leaving the military in 1948, Gus was hired at Occidental Life Insurance which later became Transamerica.

Gus met the love of his life, Athena (Tina) Tricas on September 7, 1952. Gus and Athena were married at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles on June 7, 1953. Gus and Athena had two children, Evie and Mary. Gus enjoyed going to Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe on vacations. His favorite past time was watching his grandsons play sports. Gus became immediate friends with all that he met, enjoying telling his famous jokes. Gus worked at Transamerica for 37 years before retiring in 1985 and moved to Hemet, CA. Gus and Tina moved in with their daughter, Mary and son-in-law John (Morell) in 2015.

Gus is preceded in death by his granddaughter Ashley Marie McComb, his parents, his brothers George and Tom Stratos, his niece, Kallie Varnell and nephew George Stratos. Gus is survived by his loving wife of 68 1/2 years, Athena along with daughters Mary (John) Morell and Evie (Keith) Schlosser, as well as grandchildren Ryan and Shane McComb, Austin (A.C.) and Maili Schlosser as well as step-grandchildren Dalila (Leroy) Sapa and Johnathan Morell and step great-granddaughter Noe Sapa. Gus is also survived by nephews Steve Stratos, Stan Stratos, Tula Stratos and Steven Stratos as well as his Goddaughter Karen Xanthos and many other nieces and nephews on Athena's side of the family.

Funeral services are on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 11:00am at Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Redondo Beach, California. Burial services will be on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 1:30 pm at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in San Jacinto, California.
