Obituary

Cresula Phillips passed away on Saturday, February 4 in Canton, MA. She was just shy of her 87th birthday. She was a Lady of Grace. She lived a full life and was kind, not pretentious in any way, had a pure heart,  and was loving both inside and out. Her happiness and laughter was contagious and she brightened up a room no matter where she went.

She is survived by her children Thomas Phillips, Pamela Hermann, and Theodora Malliaroudakis as well as their spouses Georgia Phillips, Stephen Hermann, and George Malliaroudakis.  Cresula was also blessed with five grandchildren: Nicholas and Jason Hermann, and Alexandra, Katherine, and Tom Phillips.

She was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Theodora Canelake and her beloved husband of 52 years, Philip Phillips. She has two surviving sisters, Artemis Karos and Matina Alexakis.

Cresula was born in Hibbing, Minnesota where she grew up working in her family's Cafe along side her parents and sisters. She went to Secretarial School and worked in the Hibbing Library until the age of 28, when she and her younger sister Matina began an adventurous journey cross country to move to Southern California. This decision changed her life! She met and married her husband Philip in 1958, and became a beloved wife and mother. They experienced living in both Germany and Greece for 15 years, before settling back into the Southern California lifestyle. She headed to the East Coast in 2012, to live with her youngest daughter in Massachusetts for her remaining years.

She was very active in the Greek community while she raised three successful children. In addition, she shared her time and treasures through volunteering and becoming a part of several non profit organizations. She worked with preschool aged children at the Children's Blind School and the Heart of the City, a food and clothing distribution program which supplemented low income families. She was a giving person and touched many lives with her smile and kindness. She was respected by all.  We will forever celebrate her life here on earth as we rejoice the gates of heaven opening to welcome her.

Funeral service will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 10830 Downey Avenue, Downey, CA on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 11:00 am. A brief luncheon at the church will follow, along with burial services at Forest Lawn, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA.
