Obituary

David ElRay Park was born May 8, 1954, in Redwood City, California. He passed away on August 7,2017 after finishing an 18 year battle with Cancer.
He is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen and his 3 children, David Nicholas, Courtney and Ethan Condie Park. They were his pride and joy. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. David had a large and loving family.
David was preceded in death by his Father, Sherman Douglas, his mother, Delpha, and his brother Sherman Douglas II. While we miss David terribly, we know he is having a wonderfully, joyful reunion with them.
David loved his life here on earth. He loved nature, backpacking, camping, hiking, golfing, motorcycle riding, even just walking. He was very proud that he was able to run Ragnar with some of his friends a few years ago. He was on some tough medications at the time but still really wanted to participate. Somehow, He did it. He ran 3 legs of the race, one of them being 11 miles. David just loved to be outdoors. His favorite place was "his" Yosemite up away from the crowd. David also loved old movies. He would often be watching and eating M&Ms the "right" way... all the blue first, then yellow, red, etc. He loved anything chocolate mint and would stock up on mint m&m's, mint kit kats and mint kisses during the christmas season . We found 14 bags in his 'stash'!
David was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served a full time mission in the Netherlands and loved it when he heard the language being spoken here. He held many callings in the church but especially loved working with the young men. He was currently the High Priest Group Leader and organist, and was a temple worker in the San Diego Temple.

David endured alot over the past 18 years. He was often in a lot of pain but put on a happy face and pressed forward. He was a private person and never wanted to share his burdens outside of family so alot of people never knew he was ill. After so many trials, medications and surgeries through the years, his body gave in to the disease that had been attacking him for so long. David's will never faltered, he still believed he would beat this this, even the week before he passed. He also kept his sense of humor until the very end....something his wife can share with those close to him. He loved his children. Nicholas, Courtney and Ethan were able to spend much of the last week of his life with him. When they walked in the room he would get a huge smile on his face, toward the end it was a little grin as that took every bit of the energy he had left.

David was an accountant and so naturally had a fascination with numbers. He proposed to his eternal companion, Kathleen, on Nov 4 2014, or 11414 so the wedding had to be on Jan 15 2015, or 11515 or Jan 16 2016, 11616. They were sealed in the San Diego Temple on Jan 15, 2015!
His greatest desire after being diagnosed back in 1999 was to live long enough to raise his children. He felt blessed to have had that desire granted by a Loving Heavenly Father. His youngest child turned 21 just a few weeks ago.
The extra time he was given made a huge difference in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
David's funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017. 451 W Bobier Dr., Vista, Ca. There will be a viewing from 11:30 - 12:30 and the funeral will be at 1:00. Email condolences to www.ChapmanFuneralDirectors.com. Chapman Funeral Homes. toll free, (855) 628-0447. Terry & Mary Harmon, Directors.
