Demetra "Demi"
Harvalos
February 27, 1933 – December 4, 2022
Demetra "Demi" Harvalos was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the only remaining sibling of brothers (Minnie and John Malliaros). She left this world on December 4, 2022 at age 89.
She was born to Olga and George Malliaros in Lowell, Massachusetts on February 27, 1933. After graduating from high school, she went on to secretary school and soon thereafter met her husband, George Harvalos. They got married in 1955 at Transfiguration Greek church in Lowell, Massachusetts, then left for California to start their family. Together they had one child, Leah.
Demi loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious Greek meals for her family. She was a skilled piano player and filled her home with classical music. She filled her free time volunteering at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles, and most recently as a volunteer at Saddleback Hospital in Laguna Niguel. Demi will always be remembered by her family and friends for having a big heart and a warm smile.
She is survived by her daughter (Leah Marincovich), son-in-law (Mark), her granddaughter (Tiffany) and husband, and her great-grandson (Miles). She is also survived by two step-grandchildren (Amanda and Brittany).
Her family wishes to thank her caregivers. "We've had the blessing of having my mom get help from wonderful caregivers the last seven years. They have helped to give her a much better life than anyone can imagine. And the last couple years the wonderful hospice workers."
A funeral service is scheduled for 10am on December 14, 2022 at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Saint John Greek Orthodox Church on her behalf, as she served as a founding member and was formerly employed as a secretary in the 1970s. Or donations may be made to Saint Constantine and Helen Greek church in Cardiff, CA.
