Dolores Hishmeh or Dolly as her friends call her, was born a Palestinian Quaker in Jerusalem. For two years, she taught English in Palestine and then married her husband Yasir Hishmeh. The couple came to America when they fled their home town of Ramallah in 1948. Once she arrived, she devoted her life to helping fellow Arab Americans find new homes and was a successful realtor for 38 years. Wanting to do more for her people and her home country, Dolly worked with many Arab clubs in southern California and was the president of the Union of Palestinian American Women. By helping displaced refugees and raising funds to support families both domestic and abroad Dolly did everything she could to make a difference. She received the Humanitarian Award in Orange County for her work towards peace. She is survived by her son Rocky and daughters Samia and Janan as well as her six grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a proud Palestinian. She will forever be missed.
