Douglas Gene Brown, 68, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away from cancer, peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on April 25, 2015 in South Pasadena, California. Doug was born April 6, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. When he was four yrs. old his family moved to South Pasadena and he spent most of his life there. He received his Eagle Scout award when he was 13 and graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1965. Doug really enjoyed his association with his fellow classmates on the South Pasadena High School Reunion Committee and was looking forward to their 50th reunion this year.

Doug served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern California (1966-1968) and has spent his life giving service in many volunteer positions to his church and the community. He was well-known as a kind, generous friend.

Doug married Cheryl Deane Maxham in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 6, 1969. Doug and Cheryl had one son, Byron.

Doug was an electrician for many years until his failing eyesight prevented him from continuing in this field. In 1991 he and Cheryl purchased Highland Park Pawnbrokers where they both worked until retirement in 2011. Doug was on the Board of Directors of the California Pawnbrokers Association, and on the board (vice-president) of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce. He was an honorary grand marshal of the Highland Park Holiday parade in 2004.

Apart from his family and church, his greatest passion was music, particularly guitars.

Doug is predeceased by his parents – Gerald and Marveen Brown, brother Gerry Brown and sister Marveen Jessup. He is survived by his wife Cheryl – the "sunshine" of his life, their son Byron, brother Les, sister Sylvia Allred, 12 nieces, 6 nephews, and 38 great- nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1919 Huntington Dr. South Pasadena.
