Obituary

Faustina Hernandez Valentin was born on February 15, 1923 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico to Ursula Viera Valentin and Andres Hernandez Viera. She passed away September 29, 2015 in San Marino, California.

She is survived by her three children, Minerva Clements Vejar, Pablo Navarro Hernandez, and Noemi Nazario and grandchildren Carilla and Arthur Clements.

Faustina was a woman of fervent faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrated her faith by serving those most in need. She stood in the gap for countless people who would love her the moment they met her, Her undying commitment to serve the hungry, the disenfranchised, the poor, the ill, the dying,
The destitute, the depressed, the needy, was only a small testament of what she embodied.

Her disposition was kind and vibrant. Her sense of humor was gentle and warm.
Four words describe her characteristics. They are Wisdom, Kindness, Strength and Faithfulness.

Her life became one grand mission to encourage others to live lives with meaning by following the example of Jesus Christ... She empowered many with gentle words and great strength. The ripple effects of her love and work only got stronger through the generations, like the blue, strong waves she loved so much from her paradise island.

She was a voice for political reform and a leader in her church and surrounding community. Faustina aided many in transitioning to Heaven and worked as a volunteer hospice attendant in Puerto Rico. She was an example for women to be valiant in the face of adversity and taught us all the power behind a silent word. She loved peace and urged everyone to seek it vigorously. She loved nature and found delight in growing flowers and anything that would grow. As a child she was raised in her family's farm in Gurabo where she helped her mother and father grow tropical crops. Her best recollections from her childhood were those moments she helped her grandmother, Rumualda, in midwifery. She would read the medical books about birthing to her. She always remembered sewing her grandmothers skirts and helping her when women from the town were to give birth. This gave her a desire to be an RN, although life took a different turn. She loved her grandmother so much, that she became equally as great a grandmother to us.

She met her husband Pablo Navarro Figueroa at the age of 17 and they married when she was 19. He had joined the US Army, so she travelled with him and her two children throughout different parts of the world as her husband served his country and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both of them were church planters, all of which these are still in existence today. They travelled to Panama, Georgia, California, and Trinidad while in the service and during those difficult times of the Korean War, she kept her family together in faith and strength.

The births of her children and her grandchildren was to her the greatest accomplishment of her life. She was so happy, that this became her main purpose for her existence. She loved me as a son-in-law and was always proud to say how much she loved and appreciated me as a husband and father. And for that I will always love her. We could always go to her for right counsel and nurturing. She was a Blessed role model for women in the family to follow as the matriarch and the eldest of 6. She has survived 4 of her 5 siblings and was a constant source of wisdom and support for her family. She helped hundreds come to know Jesus and gave them food, shelter, a kind word, good advice and care when they needed it most. She continued the long legacy of self- sacrifice and service to others that both her mother and grandmother had shown.

She was the wind beneath our wings! Thank you for all you gave us Faustina...it will forever be treasured now and for Eternity.
