The Anagnos Family and the parish of St. George in Downey morn the lost of their long time resident and pioneering church supporter, George Euangelos Anagnos - passed away December 31, 2014, in his home town of Downey, California. Born May 15, 1930 in Kapsia, Greece, George was raised through the worst of decades, beginning with the depression, through WWII and the Greek civil war. He experienced direct contact with occupational forces, being shot at and detained multiple times as a kid, simply for living where he did. By the age of twenty, he managed to leave Greece for the United States only to promptly have his sir name shortened and to be drafted into the military for service in Korea. For reasons unknown to him, the U.S. army released him prior to being shipped overseas.

With the forever grateful support of his Uncle Louie and Aunt Cleo, George began working several jobs, some overlapping until he settled in as a factory foreman. It was a secure, well-paying job; however, after only five years, he chose to give it up and take a risk at opening his own restaurant. Within the next fifteen years, along with his brother-in-law and partner, he opened nine restaurants. Most were Jim's Burgers. Financially, he did well in the United States and with the women, he did even better. He married Penelope Frousakis, also from Kapsia, and had four boys. A quiet and personal man, he learned the business ways of America, mostly because he learned as a child how to survive. A tribute to his personality and love for those around him, his friends and family, he was entrusted in baptizing ten children. On January 8th, his Godsons will carry their Nono to rest. He achieved greatly, and he suffered deeply, but he never gave up - on anyone.

Survived by his wife Penelope, sons Angelo (Aristi), Pete (Joanne), Gus (Cristina), George and grandchildren Georgia, Alexander, Lukas George, Chris, Georgios Euangelos, Angeliki, and Penelope.
