George
Chatzis
February 9, 1934 – December 21, 2019
George Chatzis, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home in Anaheim on December 21, 2019 at the age of 85.
George was born in the village of Nestani, Greece to Andreas and Konstantina. The youngest of four children, he left the village at age 14 to work in his uncle's produce business in Athens and to help support his family back home. Six years later in 1955, he immigrated to Canada to join his brother Kosta. There, George's immense work ethic served him well and he continued to help his family in Greece.
In March of 1965 he met the love of his life Ekaterini. A week later he proposed, and they were married on June 20, 1965. Two sons followed over the next five years and the family then made the move to Southern California in the autumn of 1970.
First in Lynwood and later moving to Anaheim, George made many new friends and reconnected with childhood friends who also happened to end up in California. In 1971 he started what would become a 30-year career as a restaurant owner, making some of the best burgers and chili known to mankind.
After retiring in 2001, George and Ekaterini enjoyed being able to spend much more time with their family and friends as well as making numerous trips back to Greece in the summertime. Despite several health setbacks in the last few years, George always maintained his faith and his positive outlook on life. His eternal optimism, his sense of humor and his infectious laugh will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Ekaterini; his adoring children, Andrew (Penny) and John; his brother Demetrios and many other relatives and friends.
Trisagion service will be Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 7:00pm. Funeral service will be Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10:30am, both held at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church, 405 North Dale Avenue, Anaheim, CA. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, CA.
