George
Koudanis
March 18, 1936 – January 17, 2021
George Koudanis, was born in Tripoli, Greece on March 18th, 1936 to John and Eugenia Koudanis. He passed away at the age of 84 on Sunday January 17th, 2021 at Monterey Park Hospital near his home in Monterey Park, California.
Orphaned at the age of 8, George grew up in an orphanage in the Piraeus, neighborhood of Athens, Greece. Upon turning 16 in 1952, George emigrated to America to start anew. Originally landing in California, he then spent some time in the Midwest, and eventually returned to Los Angeles, where he began a career in the restaurant industry.
While in the orphanage George developed his passion for soccer and his beloved team, Olympiacos. It was only fitting that he met his loving wife of 54 years, Eleni, at a Greek soccer match in February 1966. Together they built a wonderful life. They had two beautiful children, a multitude of friends, and traveled the world. Up until his final days, George was planning his next vacation.
In addition to soccer, George enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden, and often shared its abundance with friends and neighbors. He found relaxation on his recliner watching old Westerns, and summering on the Greek seaside.
Along with his wife, George is survived by his daughter Eugenia, his son John, Daughter-in-Law, Shireen, and Granddaughter Lilah. He loved his family with every fiber of his being and committed his entire life to making theirs better than his own. He will forever be missed.
His funeral will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Chapel at Rose Hills in Whittier, California. While the service will be private, friends are welcome to pay their respects at the interment.
May his memory be eternal.
