George Spiropoulos passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. He was born September 8, 1947, in the village of Pallantion, Tripolis, Greece, to father George, Sr. and mother Vasiliki. He served as a corporal in the Greek Air Force until arriving in the United States in 1970. His met the love of his life, Victoria, who also had emigrated from Greece, here in Los Angeles, and they married in 1971.
As a successful entrepreneur, he owned and operated diverse businesses from restaurants to auto repair shop to transportations companies until his retirement in 2008. His hobbies were equally as diverse ranging from woodworking to computer repair, but his greatest joy was music, spending several years as a DJ and even recording music with his own handmade musical instruments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Theodore. He is survived by his wife Victoria, his son Demosthenes, his daughter-in-law Valerie, and his granddaughter Zoe, as well as by his brother Jimmy (Doraly) Spiropoulos, his sisters Hariklia Tsakanikas, Mary (Nick) Kezios, Sophia (Sam) Kapogiannis, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and cousins.
Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 10830 Downey Avenue, Downey, California 90241. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church; interment to follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. Makaria will follow at Greek Orthodox Church after the interment.
