Georgia
Anasis
May 19, 1932 – November 30, 2020
Georgia Anasis (neé Poulos), a long time resident of Villa Park, California, who was affectionately known by family and friends as "Yaya," passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the age of 88.
Georgia is lovingly remembered by her brother Steve Poulos; her three children Nick Anasis, George Anasis, and Connie Cunningham; her seven grandchildren Christina Anasis, Steven Anasis, Paulina Anasis, Clayton Anasis, Sophia Cunningham, Timothy Cunningham, and Amelia Anasis; and the spouses of her children Emmy, Barbara, Colleen, and Dan; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Gus Anasis, her son John Anasis, and her brother Jim Poulos.
Georgia was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 19, 1932, to Nick and Mary Poulos. She moved to California with her family in 1944 and attended San Fernando High School. She married Gus Anasis on February 21, 1954, at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles, California. She worked in the Comptroller's Department at Prudential Insurance Company from age 18 to 27, when she and Gus adopted their first child, Nick, born in 1959. They later welcomed three more children: John, George, and Connie, in 1961, 1963, and 1970, respectively.
Georgia was a skilled needleworker, an avid Angels baseball fan, and a masterful cook famous for her traditional Greek pastries that she proudly distributed to friends and family every Christmas. She was most known, however, for being a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. As her children grew up, she served as a Boy Scouts den mother, attended hundreds of little league games, and made many personalized birthday and wedding cakes including all four of her children's. Georgia went back to work in the early 80s at Family Savings in the Villa Park Center but quit after a few years to take care of Gus when he had his heart attack. She was truly his partner in life as they did everything together, including traveling frequently to visit extended family. In 1988, they had their first grandchild, and Georgia became "Yaya." Always the caregiver, Georgia loved watching all seven of her grandchildren. She and Gus frequented baseball games, softball games, soccer games, band competitions, piano recitals, musicals, choir concerts, and more, sometimes going to multiple such events a week. Ever since moving into their Villa Park home in the late 60s, they have hosted family gatherings full of love and laughter in their living room, a tradition she continued on her own after Gus's death in 2008. For nearly 60 years, she was a member of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, California, where she was involved in Sunday School, Philoptochos Society, and Golden Stars.
Her funeral will take place on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Church as a private event for the family. She will then be laid to rest alongside her husband Gus at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, California, near her mother and her son John.
