Georgia M.
Xanthos
August 3, 1933 – March 1, 2026
Our beloved Georgia M. Xanthos peacefully passed away on March 1, 2026, at her home in Cypress, California, at the age of 92, surrounded by her daughter, her sister-in-law Georgia, and her devoted caregiver, Angelita (Angel).
Georgia is survived by her daughter, Karen; her son, Jim; her brothers, Harry Manos (Georgia) and Ted Manos; her sister-in-law, Parry Pappas; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Peter James Xanthos.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Georgia was the daughter of Greek immigrants Peter and Kalliope Manos. She and her siblings were very close to their extended family, and Georgia spent much of her childhood with her first and second cousins, forming bonds that remained strong throughout her life. In 1952, she was a princess in the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral Coronation Ball, where her escort was Peter, who later became her husband.
Georgia was an active member of Saint John Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, where she faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent in the 1970s under the guidance of Father George Massouras. She also participated in many phases of the church's construction and celebrated the historic "Opening of the Doors" service on November 16, 1975.
After retiring from 25 years in the grocery business, Georgia became active at the Cypress Senior Center, where she enjoyed playing Bingo and taking knitting and crocheting classes. During those years she met many wonderful friends, and they exchanged countless patterns. One item she truly mastered was potholders. Everyone told her she should sell them at craft shows, but Georgia preferred making them simply to give to family and friends. Today, there are many "Georgia's potholders" around—cherish them if you were lucky enough to receive a pair.
For the past five and a half years, Georgia was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Karen and her devoted caregiver Angelita (Angel), whom she loved and adored.
Funeral service, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church, Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in memory of Georgia M. Xanthos to Saint John Greek Orthodox Church, 405 N. Dale Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92801, or to a charity of your choice.
Georgia will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
May Her Memory be Eternal.
