Gregory G. Roumpos, son of George and Sophia Roumpos, was born in Kardara, Arcadia, Greece on May 20, 1931. His family moved to their new home in Tripoli, Greece in 1932. Gregory's father was an American Citizen and in November 1937, he planned to bring his family to America but unfortunately World War II broke out. They were not able to leave Greece as his mother was not an American Citizen. On February 4, 1947, Gregory's mother, brother and him were reunited with their father. Their new home was in Bingham Canyon, Utah. Gregory went to Bingham Canyon High School and graduated on May 16, 1950. At the same time, he joined the Utah National Guard and served for ten years with an honorable discharge.
Gregory enrolled in the University of Utah of College of Pharmacy in Salt Lake City, Utah in September 1951 and graduated June 10, 1957. He passed the Utah Board of Pharmacy and California State Board of Pharmacy and decided to move to California to practice pharmacy which he did for over fifty years.
In July 1958, He visited Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend the Clergy Laity Convention. He met again with Wilma Savas and they both fell in love. They were married at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 27, 1959. As a family with two children, Sophia and Peter, and grandson, Gregory, they have always kept close ties with their Greek Orthodox faith and Hellenic traditions. He has served on Saint John Parish Council in Anaheim, California and has done special fund-raising for the church.
He was a co-founder and member of the organizing committee of the Pan-Arcadian Federation (PFA) Nea Mantinia Chapter #102 of the Western District which was founded February 26, 1985 in Bellflower, California. He served on every executive position. The Pan-Arcadian Federation (PFA) is a nationwide non-profit fraternal Greek-American organization whose members descend from the region of Arcadia in the Peloponnese, southern Greece.
Gregory served as District Governor of the Western District of PFA for two terms. He also served one term as Supreme President of PFA in 1997-1998.
His duties were performed honorably with honest performance to the best of his abilities for what is best for the PFA. He always hoped PFA members are proud forever.
He is survived by his loving wife Wilma of over 59 years, his son, Peter and grandson, Gregory. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sophia.
Trisagion will be at 7:00pm on Sunday, October 7, 2018, and the funeral service will be at 10:00am on Monday October 8, 2018. Both services will be held at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 405 N. Dale Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92801. The Makaria mercy meal will follow, and then procession to Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA.
