Gus John Matty, age 87, passed away on November 10, 2014 in Laguna Hills, California. He was born to John and Maria Matty on March 20, 1927 in their home in San Bernardino, California.

Gus is survived by his loving and devoted wife Thelxe, to whom he was married for 63 years. He is also survived by his three children JoAnn (Paul) Tyson, David (Barbara) Matty, and Sharon Matty, and his granddaughters Kassandra Tyson, Anastasia Matty, and Evgenia Matty. Gus is also survived by his sisters Helen (Steven) Litsis and Mary (Edwin) Daniels, his sister-in-law Carol Bland, and many nieces and nephews. Gus is predeceased by his brother George Matty.

Gus served in the Navy in World War II as Radio Technician and was stationed in Guam. He raised his family in Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in San Bernardino, where he served on the Parish Council. For over 45 years, he was a successful contractor specializing in providing high quality sound systems to theaters, schools, and to over 100 churches in the Inland Empire.

Gus loved his family and the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and especially cherished family time and outings on his boat Reel Gusto in Dana Point Harbor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Trisagion (Memorial) Service will be held on Friday, November 14 at 7pm, and the Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 15 at 11am, both held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Downey, CA. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery.
