Gus John Pappas passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home in Los Angeles on March 25, 2016. Gus was born in Seattle, Washington. His family moved to San Francisco, California where at a young age he attended Spring Valley Grammar School. Eventually, they moved to Los Angeles where he attended Emerson Junior High, University High School and finally UCLA where he joined Theta Xi Fraternity. Immediately following college, Gus was drafted into the United States Army where he served approximately two years in Heidelberg Germany. In 1963, while on vacation in Greece, Gus met his wife to be, Angeliki Bouboutsari. They married in 1964. Gus worked at the Building & Safety Department for the City of Los Angeles as a civil engineer for 25+ years, in addition to owning his own private real estate investment business. He and his wife Kiki were longtime active members of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles and they both deeply cherished their Greek heritage. Gus is survived by his beloved wife Angeliki (Kiki), his three children Anmarie Booras (Greg), Danae Webster (Greg), Marcus Pappas (Cheri), and his seven grandchildren Andrew, Athena, Ethan, Connor, Aiden, Stella and Rocco. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister Sophie Mastor (Tony), Brother-in-law Jesse Lasswell, nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends, Koumbari, fraternity brothers and co-workers. He will be missed dearly. May his memory be eternal.
Funeral Services and Makaria will be held on April 6, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Sophia Cathedral located at 1324 South Normandie Ave., Los Angeles, Ca 90006. Trisagion will be held at St. Sophia Cathedral on April 5, 2016 at 7pm.
