Gus "Costas" Sinanis passed away peacefully on October 2, 2018 at the age of 84. He was born in Piana, Arcadia, Tripoli, Greece. As a teen he left Greece, as many did at the time, to come to America in hopes of opportunities for a better life. He lived with his Theo Gus, Theo Sam, Thea Kassiani, and his 3 cousins Georgia, Sophia, and George. He started working in the restaurant industry first as a bus boy, and then as bartender. This led him to an accomplished career as an Executive Chef that spanned over nearly five decades, running many top kitchens and Coffee Shops in the Los Angeles area.
He loved to bowl and was quite good at it. He belonged to many bowling leagues over the years and accumulated a number of trophies. He loved to drive Cadillacs, play poker, go to Greek festivals, listen to Clarino music, and dance Tsamiko. He was a very proud life long member of AHEPA. Above all though, he loved his children George and Kathy, and had a tremendous amount of love for his grandchildren Jackie and Daniel. He was very proud of all of them. He definitely enjoyed life to its fullest, and only on his terms. Costas was truly a one of a kind.
He is survived by his son George, his daughter Kathy, his grandson Daniel, his granddaughter Jackie, his son-in-law Tom, and his daughter-in-law Felita. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 12:00pm at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge immediately followed by the Makaria luncheon at the church. Interment at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills will follow the conclusion of the Makaria luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Costa's honor to Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Northridge, California.
