James G.
Karatsikis
April 25, 1950 – March 23, 2020
James G. Karatsikis, age 69, passed away on March 23, 2020, at St. John of God Retirement & Care Center in Los Angeles. He was born April 25, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia, to Constantine and Angie (Hamberis) Karatsikis. Jimmy was a 1969 graduate of Hampton High School, Hampton, Virginia.
After graduation from high school, Jimmy's love for music led him to becoming a member of several musical groups and bands. He spent the next several years performing in nightclubs and at private parties in Virginia and the Carolinas. Once he decided to get a "real job," he began a lifetime career in sales. Jimmy moved to Los Angeles 35 years ago as a result of a job opportunity and never left. He became an active member of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served on the Parish Council as Treasurer. Jimmy loved the history, design, and innerworkings of the Cathedral and grew as an Orthodox Christian as a result. He worked at the Cathedral for the last 20 years until his recent retirement.
He is survived by his brother John (Rebecca) Karatsikis of Yorktown, Virginia, two nieces, Alexa (Braxton) Vinson of Richmond, Virginia, and Sophia (Bradley) Ruiz of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two great-nephews, and relatives both in Greece and the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on April 2, 2020. The burial will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. Given the health restrictions placed on public gatherings at this time, the service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial donation in Jimmy's name to Saint Sophia Philoptochos Society, 1324 S. Normandie Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90006.
