Jason
Nonis
June 8, 1934 – April 2, 2022
Jason Nonis, 87, of Riverside, CA, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center in Riverside, CA. Born in Kranidion, Greece, he came through Ellis Island, New York, and settled in Providence, Rhode Island, at the very young age of 3 years old. He started working in the restaurant with his father at 8 years old. In October 1953, he was drafted by the United States Army and received the National Defense Service Medal for his service as a snare drummer in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October 1955. While earning, his Associates Degree in Accounting from Bryant College, he met the love of his life, Anne Pournaras, at a Greek Orthodox Youth Association (GOYA) event at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Providence, RI. They dated for 4 years and were married at the same church on November 13, 1960. They quickly moved west and settled in Southern California, where they later had five children together. He worked as a hospital administrator for several years, in addition to doing accounting for over 40 years with various clients. As a long-time member of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, in Anaheim, CA, he served on the Parish Council Board, the Greek Orthodox Basketball League Board (GOBL), and the Greek Orthodox Memorial and Cultural Foundation of Southern California.
Jason loved his Greek Orthodox heritage, music and watching sports, especially whenever his children or grandchildren were playing. His face would light up with love and pride through each of his grandchildren's baby phase, as he was soaking up "Papou" time, always holding them close to his heart while rubbing their backs. His family was his everything.
Jason is survived by his five children, daughter, Barbara Anne Nonis of La Habra, CA; son, Andrew Jason Nonis, and his wife, Nicole, of Chino, CA; daughter, Stephanie Elaine (Nonis) Cole, and her husband, Christopher, of Riverside, CA; daughter, Christine Sophia (Nonis) Turner, and her husband, Christopher, of Tustin Ranch, CA; and son, Nicholas Anthony Nonis, and his wife, Sabrina, of Corona, CA; "Papou" to fifteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Monica, Tiffany, Lindsay, Nicolette, Danielle, Samantha, Victoria, Lauren, Jason, Michael, Garrett, Evan, Zachary and Christopher Jr; his two great-grandsons; his sister, Eleanora (Nonis) Karalis, and her husband, Achilleas, of Fairhaven, MA; his cousins, nephews and nieces located throughout the United States.
