Dolas
April 7, 1928 – February 23, 2020
John Dolas was born April 7, 1928 in Nestani, Greece. He was raised by his parents Vasiliki and Petro and was the oldest of four children Athansia, Kosta, and Jim. After moving to the states, John married his loving wife Theodora. He was a devoted husband, father, Papou, brother and Theo. He passed away peacefully at his home in Long Beach, California, on February 23, 2020 surrounded by his family. John suffered a stroke over twenty years ago. He was able to live his life at home with the endless devotion, love and support of his wife who rarely left his side.
After serving proudly in the Greek army he came to America in the late 1950s, not knowing much of the language, and proceeded to live the American dream of a Greek immigrant owning several restaurants with his brothers and finally settling in Long Beach.
He was a hard working man who instilled Greek values and a strong work ethic onto his children.
His survived by his loving wife, Theodora (Teddy) and his children Rosie (Perry), Peter, Vasso (Cary), Tia (Pete). Grandchildren Anthony, Johnny, Nitsa, Athena, and Alexandra. Siblings Jim (Camille), Gus-deceased (Maria), Athanasia (Kosta) both deceased. Along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins from the United States and Greece.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach.
Both services will be at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 5761 E. Colorado Street, Long Beach, CA 90814. Trisagion is on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 7:00 pm, coffee served in the Betty Reckas Center afterwards. Funeral service is on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Forest Lawn in Cypress. After interment, please join the family for a luncheon (Makaria) in the Betty Reckas Center at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
