Obituary


John Philip Giannikas, 57, passed away September 7, 2018, at home surrounded by family and friends.

Born December 15, 1960, in Huntington Park, California, he was the son of Angeliki Pentheroudakis and the late Gus Giannikas.

Philip attended Glendale High school in Los Angeles, and then went on to graduate from Occidental College and the UCLA School of Law. His life journey took him to Jackson, Mississippi; Memphis and Nashville Tennessee; Miami, Florida; and briefly Valparaiso, Indiana before returning to Los Angeles and ultimately San Diego, California. He was an attorney and an Administrative Law Judge for the federal government. He was an active philanthropist. He pursued and loved acting, music, and the fellowship of close family and friends. He had an endless thirst for truth and knowledge.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Angeliki and Panajiotis Pentheroudakis; his sister and brother-in-law, Eleni and Giuseppe Ammirati, and their children, Emanuele, Chiara and Anna; his brother and sister-in-law, Manoli and Nicole Pentheroudakis, and their children Nicolas and Sasha; his cousins Nicholas and Charlie Zavos, and their children Madeline, Henry and James; his cousins Kosta and Dimitra Kapogianis, and their children, Vasilios, Theodore and Eleni; his cousins John and Vasiliki Kapogianis, and their daughter Maria; his uncle George Giannikas and many other close friends and family.

He was predeceased by his father, Gus Giannikas, as well as his uncle, Harry Zavos.

Trisagion will be at 7:00pm on Friday, September 14, 2018. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 1:30pm, both held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1324 Normandie Avenue, Los Angeles, CA. Interment will be at 1:00pm on Monday, September 17, 2018, at El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego, CA.
