Extra material from her friend Christopher Yokas:
I wish to add a few comments to Kathy's obituary: Katherine Pentogenis was a gifted musician and singer who devoted many years from the 1950s through the 1980s to the music ministry of Saint Sophia Cathedral. Kathy and her sisters were all musically talented, especially Kathy and her sister Alex with careers as public school educators who taught music, led choral groups, and produced school concerts.
At Saint Sophia Cathedral as a member of our volunteer choir, Kathy had an unbelievable ability to transform our soprano singers who at times numbered as many as 15 to sound as one well blended and balanced voice. She did this skillfully, humbly as a singer and without over singing. When I began working with her in the late 1970s, she taught me a great deal about singing and music. I would accompany her at weddings and she also served as an assistant conductor to Frank Desby. She sang solo passages in many works including Dr. Desby's own liturgical compositions most notably her unparalleled rendition of the solo passage in "Kyrie igapisa" - Lord I have loved the beauty of Thy house and the place where Thy glory dwells - which we would sing every October to celebrate the 1952 opening and consecration of the cathedral.
The photograph (see it in the Photo Gallery on a desktop or laptop computer, not a mobile phone), from the early 1960s, is an album cover of Dr. Frank Desby's concert / recording / radio broadcast group, The Byzantine Chorale. The singers pictured are as follows:
1st Row: Kathy Pentogenis, Theodora Anderson, A. Electra Koutsoukos, Betty Stumpus, Xenia and Frank Desby.
2nd Row: Connie Cooper, Tula Van Alstine, (will identify), Georgiana Manos, Cathy Martin, Rita Stephanou
3rd Row: Helen Nickols, Elias Kollias, Demo Dafnos, Louis Marquart, Helen Georgilas, Angela Manolakas.
