Katina
Regopoulos
May 4, 1939 – June 3, 2023
Katina Regopoulos was born in the small village of Planetero, Greece on May 4, 1939, to Panagioti and Theoni Vagenas. She was the 4th child out of six children. As a child, Katina loved working outdoors and in the fields. She and her siblings worked for other farmers in order to help with the family finances. Katina married her childhood sweetheart Vasilios in January 1963 on a very cold and snowy day. Vasilios and Katina lived in Planetero where their eldest son, Theodore was born. They eventually moved to Athens where Vasilios had a maintenance job for an apartment complex. In Athens their family grew by the birth of their daughter, Yiota.
In 1969, Katina, Vasilios and their children came to the United States with the help of her brothers, Dino Vagenas and Alex Vagenas. Here is where their family grew again with the birth of their third child, Niko. Katina loved her native Greece and always wanted to go back and live there, but taking care of her family was the absolute priority. She would always keep Greece, her culture, and her religion close to her heart. She was a loving homemaker, wife, and mother. She was always very supportive, caring and loving to her immediate and extended family. She loved to cook, and she was an avid gardener. She grew all kinds of vegetables and had many fruit trees. Gardening made her happy and she was always willing to share whatever she grew in her garden with all her family and friends. She even gave others some of her tips to help them grow their gardens as well.
Katina loved her beloved Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Katina loved attending church every Sunday, seeing her many friends and baking her Agios Fanourios cake for "coffee hour". Katina also enjoyed making prosforo. She was a proud member of the Saint Demetrios Philoptochos where one of her favorite joys was working with the other ladies of the parish and her daughter to help decorate the Epitaphio for Easter. She considered it quite an honor and a blessing. Furthermore, she helped cook many meals for church luncheons. She would never utter the word, no, it was always, yes, whatever the church needed she was there to help. She and her family frequently helped the church by spending many hours cleaning both indoors and in the garden. Vasilios and Katina were quite the amazing team. They would go to church, regardless of how tired they were from their daily job, and keep it looking nice and ready for church on Sunday. Often, they would go and no one would even know until Sunday when they would see all the amazing hard work that they had done together. Katina got much joy from spending hours upon hours reading about the lives of all the Saints of the church.
Katina is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vasilios (Bill); sons, Theodore and Niko, daughter, Yiota; her brothers Bill Vagenas, Alex Vagenas and sister Ereeni Kourousias. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Katina is predeceased in death by her parents, brothers Dino Vagenas and George Vagenas.
Katina was a loving, friendly, compassionate, giving, helpful, humble, and quiet lady. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, especially her loving family.
