Kyriakos "Chuck"
John Frankos
March 7, 1933 – January 22, 2022
Kyriakos John Frankos was born on March 7, 1933, in Asea, a small village of about 400 people. He was the son of Ioannis and Konstantina Fragos and had two sisters and three brothers. Throughout his childhood, Kyriakos dreamed of coming to America after high school. In 1951, at age 19, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Los Angeles. He got involved in the Greek community, and 12 years later, he met Irene Mantis. They were married in Saint Sophia Cathedral, just three months after meeting, and were happily married for 59 years.
Kyriakos spent thirty years working for Thrifty Drugs Stores and then retired to help manage his friend's restaurant in Culver City, The Crest House. However, nothing in life was more important to Kyriakos than his family. He and Irene raised two daughters, Dina and Niki. The true joy of his life was his grandchildren.
In 1992, Kyriakos was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given only a few months to live. His doctors referred to him as a medical miracle. It wasn't until late 2020 that Kyriakos was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Complications from a recent fall led to his decline, and he passed away on January 22, 2022. His laughter, friendship, generosity, and warmth will be greatly missed by the many who loved him so dearly.
Kyriakos is survived by his wife, Irene; his two children, Dina Skrumbis (Jim) and Niki Lianides (Bill); his four grandchildren, Peter Skrumbis (Amber), Vanessa Skrumbis, Charlie Lianides, and Max Lianides. His first great-grandchild is expected in April.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 29, 2022, and held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. Interment will follow and will be private for the family.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude for all the expressions of love and kindness shown to us during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating in Kyriakos' honor to the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation. www.alzdiscovery.org/donate
