Obituary

Lannie John Julias, 80, was born on September 23, 1940 to John and Ismene Julias in Los Angeles, California. He passed away January 3, 2021 after a month long battle with Covid-19.

Lannie's passion in life was football. He was a coach, scout and recruiter for more than 50 years and was one of the legendary names in scouting and recruiting circles. A native of Los Angeles (and a Dorsey High graduate), he had coaching jobs at several schools including Utah State, Southern, New Mexico and Colorado, among others. Lannie worked all over the United States and even ventured to Canada and worked within the Canadian Football League. His love for football never left. Even in his retirement, he could be seen with his yellow-lined notepad taking notes about players with his newspaper and magnifying glass in hand.

Lannie was one of a kind. There was truly no one like him. He had the gift of being able to walk up to a stranger, have a conversation with them and leave with a friend. He had so many friends from all walks of life who will miss him. His friends and family will also miss his unbelievable stories. He always had a story to tell.

Lannie was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Chris Julias and many other family and friends. He is survived by his niece Christina Julias-Rangel, her husband Armando and children Alexandria, Sophia and Isabella, and sister-in-law Katherine Julias.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private service and burial will be held graveside on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11am. The service can be viewed on Zoom. Meeting ID: 729 8513 7168 Passcode: Lannie
