Lillian Mae Cook was born to Clara Irene (Huggins) and George Estley Nix on August 12, 1923, in Seal Beach, California, where her father was drilling some of the earliest oil wells on the west coast.

When Lillian was six months old the family moved from California back to Texas. Lillian grew up in the Texas Panhandle. During WWII she worked for B.F. Goodrich, manufacturing synthetic rubber. In 1943 she married Thoren Priest Cook, a chemical engineer working for Phillips Petroleum Company in Borger, Texas; Bartlesville, OK; and Tulsa, OK. They moved to Anaheim, California in 1954 where she lived for 50 years.

Lillian excelled as a golfer. She was club champion at her home course, Alta Vista, and served as president of the Southern California Women's Golf Association. She worked with the USGA in establishing course ratings for women. Lillian traveled in the U.S. officiating Junior Golf tournaments. After the death of her husband she moved to La Quinta, California in 2004.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Jordan Nix; her husband; and her daughters, Kindell Jane Mechling, Karen Lynn Rodrigues, and Signe Janine Cook.

Lillian is survived by her son, Dexter Thoren Cook (and wife, Wanda) of New Port Richey, Florida; her sister JoAnna Henegar of Bloomington, Indiana; grandchildren Erica Monson (husband, Ry) of San Clemente, California; David Cook of San Clemente, California; Gary Mechling (wife, Kelli) of Huntington Beach, California; and Michael Mechling (wife, Sarah) of San Clemente, California. Lillian is survived by five great grandchildren: Delta and Von Monson, Nathan Mechling, and Sophia and Gavin Mechling.
