Lola Gialketsis, daughter of the late John and Pauline. Tassop. Predeceased by her parents, brothers Ernest and Nicholas Tassop, and beloved husband, George, passed away peacefully August 12, 2016, with her loving family at her side.
Survived by her daughter, Suzanne, her Fiancé Danny, son, George, Daughter-in-law Cynthia, adored grandchildren, Brendan and Holly, loving sister, Mary Tassop, brother-in-law, William Babe Gialketsis, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and relatives.
Raised in Alhambra, CA and attended schools there. She was always an outstanding student. After graduating from University of Southern California, Lola returned to her Alma Mater, Alhambra High School, as a teacher in business education.
In 1961, Lola met and married her love and soul mate, George Gialketsis. They resided in Hollywood Hills and raised two children, Suzanne and George. Lola devoted her life and energies to the care of husband, children and family. She participated in many organization and activities for her children -- Brownies, Cub Scouts, PTA, etc. and was involved in helping her husband in his business.
Besides her family, her main focus and devotion was to her church, Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the women's volunteer group, Saint Sophia Philptohos Society. She served on the Board for 35 years, holding every office, including President and volunteered as Chairman or committee member of every fund-raising committee. In 1991, Lola was honored as "Mother of the Year" by the Philptohos Society and as "Mother of the Year" in 1995 by the Alkandre Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope Society, where she was a member of over 40 years.
Lola was a wonderful and very loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She adored being "YiaYia" to her grandchildren and gave all her love and devotion to her children and family. She was always there with encouragement, support and constant love. She loved planning many holiday activities, vacations and special times for her family and friends.
Lola was grateful for her many special and great friends and the activities she enjoyed with them. She and her husband, George, had many fine times with their Bunco group and relatives and friends and Lola with her Birthday Club, Philptohos events, many luncheons and activities with wonderful friends, neighbors and family.
She is deeply missed by her loving children and grandchildren, sister and family but is always in our loving thoughts and memories forever.
Funeral service will be Thursday, August 18th at 10:30 am
St. Sophia Cathedral 1324 S. Normandie Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90006, the mercy meal will follow, then, procession to Inglewood Park Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, George. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Sophia's Philoptohos, in honor of Lola.
