Obituary

Lurena Jumalon Caulawon was born on November 8th, 1977 in Lusot, Baliangao, Misamis Occidental. Lurena passed away in Anaheim, California, USA on November 24th, 2023 at the age of 46.

Lurena was preceded in death by her grandparents Ceriaco Bedad Caulawon, Visitation Jumalon Caulawon and her younger brother Elizer Caulawon Bantilan. Lurena is survived by her mother Myrna Bantilan Caulawon, step-father Petronio Bantilan, siblings: Arnel Caulawon Bantilan, Judy Caulawon Bantilan, Philip Caulawon Bantilan, Percie Caulawon Bantilan (Belangel), Arjay Caulawon Bantilan, Mary-Joy Caulawon Bantilan (Bonifacio), Marvyn Caulawon Bantilan, Precious Caulawon Bantilan, Jonathan Bantilan, and Lurena's husband Kris Dewey Head.

Lurena was raised in the Baliangao area of Misamis Occidental. This was a rural, tranquil "tropical paradise" provincial area of the Philippines. Lurena spent much time there with her beloved grandparents.

When Lurena was in her early 20s she and several members of her family moved to Pampanga Province of the Philippines. Lurena met her husband Kris online in 2001. After writing each other for a couple of years, Kris went to the Philippines and they were married (March 2003). Lurena came to the United States in May of 2005. She resided with Kris in Garden Grove, CA until her passing.

Lurena began her new life in America by enrolling in the "English as a Second Language" program at the Lincoln Garden Grove Adult Education Center for two years (2006-2008). Lurena did so well that she was soon helping to tutor the other students. Lurena then worked at Walmart from 2009 to 2012. Lurena was forced to stop her employment due to her first major bout with Lupus.

Throughout Lurena's life here in California, she was always making new friends. Lurena was always ready for a trip, a party or other fun activity with her rapidly growing social circle. Lurena was rarely parted from her cellphone, which she used to maintain contact with friends and family. Between trips/activities with both her husband and her friends, Lurena was quite the frequent traveler. Lurena also returned to the Philippines on three occasions to reconnect with family. Lurena enjoyed the bands/singers Air Supply, the Scorpions, BeeGees, and Celine Dion. Lurena really enjoyed going to concerts and Vegas shows. Lurena would then stay afterwards to meet/photograph the performers.

Lurena also enjoyed creating necklaces and bracelets from beads she would get at specialty stores and jewelry shows. Lurena also understood the importance of photography in documenting her various adventures.

In the final year of her life, Lurena joined the service organization "Lions International". She really enjoyed the people, activities, and opportunities to help others.

The most enduring and endearing quality of Lurena was her unfailing positivity. She was always there to help others. She will be deeply missed by many. Final arrangements were conducted by Chapman Funeral Homes, 702 E. Chapman Ave., Orange, CA 92866.
