Mary Elizabeth Steiner, born Mary Elizabeth Forster, passed away peacefully July 18, 2015 in Santa Ana, CA two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Mary was a kind-hearted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was raised by her immigrant parents Jacob and Maria Forster in the Forster Hotel of Abilene, Kansas. Mary married Merton Steiner at 18. They eventually settled and transformed into a home the Houston School in Lancaster Texas, built 1913. Although her husband passed away in 1972 she continued to live in the "schoolhouse" until 2012 when she moved to California to stay with a son and spent her last few months in a Santa Ana assisted living community. She was predeceased by her sisters Pearl, Rosann, and Irene and by her sons Eric and Merton Jr, and daughter Elizabeth (whom had Down Syndrome and Mary lovingly cared for until Elizabeth's death in 2004). She is survived by daughter Sue Lynn; sons Donald and Douglas; daughter-in-law Annette; grandchildren Michael, Jacqueline, Stephen, Merika, Charles, Robert, Bridget and Jacob; and great-grandchildren Nicolette, Shelby and Payton. Her spirit and kindness will be sorely missed. Her memory will be honored by her family in California and Texas.
