Muriel P. Gritsonis of North Hollywood, California passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the age of 90. Muriel was born on November 22, 1924 in Los Angeles, California. She attended UCLA, earning a BA in business. After college, she met and married her husband John Gritsonis. From 1957-1960 she worked for Bank of America as Vice President and Branch Manager in Hollywood. Afterward she managed properties with her husband John. In 1959 she became a mother with her son Nick Gritsonis. Muriel enjoyed cooking Greek dishes for her family.
She was a member of Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles, and a member of their Philoptochos ladies auxiliary, and VIP senior group. Muriel was a long-time member of the Daughters of Penelope, Melita Chapter #119 in Hollywood, California. In 1942 when she joined the Daughters of Penelope, she was the youngest member in the Melita Chapter at the age of 18.
She is survived by son Nick Gritsonis, nephew Dean Gritsonis, and niece Nancy Lally. She is predeceased by her parents Stavros and Despina Pappas, husband John Gritsonis, and two sisters.
Trisagion will be at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, and the funeral at 10 am on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Both services are at Saint Sophia Cathedral, 1324 S. Normandie Avenue, Los Angeles, California. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068 with the Makaria (mercy meal) following at the Wilson Harding Clubhouse in Griffith Park, 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027.
