Nicholas A. Perris passed away peacefully on February 3, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born in Warren, Ohio on January 21, 1923 to Rose and Alexander Perris, the second of four children.
During WWII, Nicholas served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp and was a Radio Operator for his outfit while engaged in combat in the Pacific Theater, specifically on the islands of Guam, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima, and received a Purple Heart for wounds received.
In 1952, Nicholas married Penny Sfakianos and had two children in Toledo, Ohio. He was an active member in the Holy Trinity Cathedral until 1980 when he married for the second time and relocated to California.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lela (Zouras) Perris; children Patricia and Sandra, and grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Andrea, Nicolas and Tricia in Ohio; stepchildren Peter (deceased), Demitri, Tashi and wife Hui, and grandchildren James and Evan in California.
The Trisagion service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am on Friday, February 10, 2017, both at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church at 10830 Downey Avenue, Downey. The family will host the Makaria luncheon afterwards before attending the burial service at Inglewood Memorial Park in Inglewood, California.
