Nick Christ passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Nick was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, on March 10, 1927, to Heracles and Mathilde Papachristides. He was raised in Konitsa, Epirus, and he came to the United States in 1946 after having served in Zervas' EDES forces. Nick lived in the Bronx and attended high school and college in New York, studying electrical engineering. After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, Nick settled in San Diego where he met and married his wife, Electra Cossolias, to whom he was married for 68 years.

While in San Diego, Nick served on the Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church Parish Council. Nick and Electra then moved to Orange County where they participated in the establishment of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, California. Shortly thereafter, their daughter Cathy was born in Orange. Nick was a devoted father who spoiled her terribly. During his engineering career, he worked on one of the Apollo projects. He also dabbled in the restaurant business, owning his own as well as working as a manager for others. He was one of the original managers of the Orange Hill Restaurant when it opened, and he also worked for the Broadway.

Nick served the community of Saint John's in a variety of roles for over 40 years. He volunteered tirelessly, never turning down a request. Nick loved to cook and could be often found in the church kitchen cooking for many of the major church functions, including the Greek festivals as well as many of the Philoptochos events. Nick also taught Sunday School and served as a Psalti for 6 months at Saint John's. In 1986 he accompanied Metropolitan Anthony with a group on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where he received a blessing in the Jordan River and attended the Liturgy celebrated by the Metropolitan in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. This was a last-minute trip as he just happened to be on the same flight to Greece as the group and made the decision to tag along.

Nick was responsible for Saint John's first participation in the Orange International Street Fair, which has become one of the Church's main fundraisers. He also served as Chairman for the Greek Festival. Nick served on the Saint John's Parish Council for many years and was elected as Vice President and President. In his later years, he joined Electra as a member of the Saint John's Choir. Nick had a very strong Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing trips with his church friends, and many have shared that he would often drop by their homes or businesses during the day to visit. Nick usually had a smile on his face and liked a good joke. He enjoyed music and dancing and was very proud of his Greek heritage. Nick also loved the stock market, which he followed daily. Nick spent his final days at Golden Years Assisted Living, and we cannot express enough gratitude to Mary, Paul, Paulina and all the caregivers for the loving care he received. Although he struggled with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease at the end of his life, when asked who Electra was, he would always answer "my beautiful wife."

The Trisagion will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 7:00pm and the funeral will be on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 10:00am, both services held at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church, 405 North Dale Street, Anaheim, CA 92801. Following the Makaria (mercy luncheon), the interment will be at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, California.
