Nicos G.
Ganis
April 16, 2013
He was born in Arusha, Tanzania on November 8, 1930. During World War II, he lived in German occupied Crete with his aunt and cousins. After the war he completed his high school education in Thessaloniki and then attended a technical college in South Africa. In 1950 he moved to St. Louis Missouri to further his studies. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Army and became a US Citizen, an event that he always said was the happiest moment of his life at that time. After two years in the army he was honorably discharged, went to Washington University, and graduated as an Electrical Engineer. He has always been proud of his contributions to the early space program, working with some of the first astronauts on the Gemini program.
He has been an active member of his parish and has a strong Orthodox faith. He will be remembered for his humor, his smiling blue eyes, and his tremendous pride in all his grandchildren.
A Trisagion service will be held Monday April 22nd, 2013 at 7:00 PM and the funeral will be Tuesday April 23rd, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be at St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St. John's Philoptochos Society.
